Stan Moody, former Maine State Legislator from Manchester, ME who served as both a Republican and a Democrat, will speak on January 10 at a social justice forum at the United Universalist Congregation of Columbia, SC…The topic of his address with be, “The Rise of Christian Atheism in America.”
The Forum is comprised of a group of active and retired professionals in the fields of psychology, education and social work…Their interest is in the connection of religion and social justice with domestic and international politics and world affairs…
Moody is an evangelical theologian who is a writer and national speaker on the widespread influence of the Christian Right on American politics and religion… He pastors the Meeting House Church in Manchester, was recently a Chaplain at the Maine State Prison in Warren and has written several provocative books on what he considers to be the destructive impact of evangelical Christian thought and practice on politics and culture… His most recent book is, “McChurched: 300 Million Served and Still Hungry.”
Moody has made several trips recently to the Palestinian West Bank and has become a public spokesman for prison reform in Maine…He lives in Manchester with his wife, Barbara, and their son, Jonathan, a junior at Maranacook Community School in Readfield…
